I live with my family of four in Sundernagar, Himachal Pradesh. My father is a mason and the breadwinner of the family while my mother is a housewife. I am the eldest son in the family and had always felt the weight of responsibilities upon my shoulders. Due to the financial problems, I also had to discontinue formal education. I joined work as a mason to support my father and also started working as a helper to my uncle who worked as a carpenter. That was where my interest in carpentry grew.
When I met our mobiliser Mr. Naresh Kumar who explained me about the Carpenter –Wooden Furniture course offered by HPKVN in association with LabourNet, I had my doubts. So, I visited the center a few days later to enquire more. After getting my doubts cleared, I joined the course. I took part in presentations, group discussions, etc. and after completing my assessments, I got certified. Now, I work from home doing carpentry work at a monthly income of Rs 12000.
I would like to thank to HPKVN and LabourNet for this training which has made me self-dependent.
